  • The Reading Test of the SAT contains one section of 52 questions and a time limit of 65 minutes. The test takers are expected to answer multiple-choice questions on the basis of reading passages. Questions pertaining to tables, graphs, and charts may also accompany some passages, but they are very basic and no specialized knowledge is required to answer them. There are five passages (two of which may be a pair of smaller passages) on the Reading Test and 10-11 questions per passage or passage pair. The passages are as follows: 1 literary passage from a work of fiction. 1 or 2 passages from a U.S. founding document (such as the US Constitution) 1 passage from a work of economics, psychology, sociology, or some other social science. 2 passages from scientific works that examine foundational concepts and developments in Earth science, biology, chemistry, or physics.
  • The Writing and Language test is a multiple-choice test in which you read passages and find and correct mistakes and improve weaknesses. These questions are on the basis of standard English conventions and ask you to make sentences consistent with standard grammar, usage, and punctuation conventions. This section is 35 minutes long, includes 4 passages, and contains 44 multiple-choice questions.
